Magic Recording: Secret Message
Note: the only way to hear the secret message is to watch the video and follow the instructions. But here’s the transcript anyway …
Hello. I’m Mel Windham, composer and owner of Melkim Publishing. And are you ready to see something crazy? Somewhere in this video, I’m going to hide a secret message. Can you find it? Don’t worry — I’ll give you instructions.
But first, I’d like to play an excerpt from our latest album, HOPE. Enjoy a minute of “Pepper.”
<music plays: “Pepper” from the album “HOPE”>
Okay, if you enjoyed that, there’s more that came from. During these troubled times, wouldn’t it be great to have some HOPE? For more, just visit melkimpublishg.com/hope.
But now, let’s get back to business. That song was kind of pretty, wasn’t it? However, did something sound a little off?
Here — I’m about to give you some instructions. If you do the following, and then go back and watch this video again, you will be able to hear the secret message the second time around.
Are you ready? I’m going to explain how you can set your audio to mono. Most devices play stereo as a default, but you can only hear the secret message in mono.
I’ll show you how to do this on a Mac.
First you click on the Apple in the upper left. Choose “System Settings.” And then “Accessibility.” Then click on “Audio.” And then near the top: “Play stereo audio as mono.” If you click that, your computer is then in Mono.
If you’re on an iPhone, settings are similar: Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual > Mono Audio
Also in Windows: Settings > Ease of Access > Audio
If you need more specific instructions, just look up how to turn your device’s audio to mono.
Okay — now that you have Mono turned on, go back and watch this video again, and see if you hear the secret message. And if this is your second time around and you’re still freaking out, just remember to go back and turn the mono back off.
And while you’re wondering how I pulled off this trick, keep in mind that you can turn the mono on and off while the video is playing.
I hope you enjoy, and come back later for more fun things.
